|
| Welcome to this month's Good News!
Hope you had a good Easter Weekend!
GIVE-AWAY: Last week, MC Leadership Team Member Cheryl Kerrigan released her first book, Telling ED NO! Yay, Congratulations!!! :-) And in order to celebrate this inspiring achievement, we'll be giving away a copy of Cheryl's book every week throughout April. You'll find more information about Telling ED NO! and on how to enter the give-away within this ezine.
~~~~~ We want to say "THANK YOU!" ~~~~~
Your donations DO make a HUGE difference!
Every single dollar counts and goes a looooooooong way!
MC's services are always free to members , but MC is not free to run and maintain.
Paying it Forward: What can we each do
to give back to the community that gives so much to us? Each month of
2010, we will be celebrating MC's second year by exploring many ways we
can give back.
April's "It Takes Two" Celebration of GRATITUDE Campaign
We can't recover with only our eating disorder for company. That is why it takes TWO to start the recovery process
- you, and at least one other person who believes in you and
is willing to stand by your side and support you as you heal. You'll
find more information about April's "It Takes Two" Celebration of
GRATITUDE Campaign within this ezine.
See you on tonight's and Thursday night's live chat.
If you are on Facebook, Twitter or MySpace, be sure to look MentorCONNECT up, and say "Hello!" -- we are looking forward to connecting with you online! :-)
Join Us on Capitol Hill and Make A Difference!
Come to the EDC Lobby Day
April 26th & 27th 2010 in Washington, DC
Think only paid lobbyists can influence policy makers? Think again! As a constituent with an important message to share - you too can influence federal policy. Join the Eating Disorders Coalition (EDC) for our April Lobby Day on Capitol Hill in Washington DC where your voice will make a difference.
The
EDC (Eating Disorders Coalition) will host its first Lobby Day of 2010
in Washington, DC to advocate for the inclusion of mental health in
health care reform, and treatment for eating disorders specifically.
This Lobby Day built even further momentum around FREED - the first
eating disorders legislation to comprehensively promote research,
treatment, education, and prevention programs - and demonstrated
why it is vital in the larger contest of health care reform.
This
is one of the most important events all year -- and an exciting
opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials or their staff
about legislation that will impact all those affected by eating
disorders.
Click here for more information. To RSVP, click here.
Shannon will also be a part of April's EDC Lobby Day
and she'd love to see YOU there as well! :-)
April's Paying It Forward
"It Takes Two" Celebration of GRATITUDE Campaign
We can't recover with only our eating disorder for company.
That is why it takes TWO to start the recovery process - you,
and at least one other person who believes in you and is
willing to stand by your side and support you as you heal.
How can we express our gratitude to that first special
someone who supported us and began to replace our relationship with Ed
with a real, loving human relationship - and at the same
time pay it forward to help the next wave of sufferers find
support?
This month, consider giving just $2 to your community to help us keep offering free support to all who need it. We
encourage you to give $1 in recognition of someone who has helped you,
and $1 in honor of someone you care about who is fighting Ed (this
someone could even be YOU!)
MC's services are always free to members, but MC is not free to run and maintain.
Your dollars can stretch a loooonnnnggg way to help keep MC healthy & growing!
YES! I am willing to donate $2 right now
to support MC in the month of March.
Join us on Wednesday, April 14: MC Teleconference Series
"It Is NEVER Too Late To Recover From Your Eating Disorder!"
Why the best get-well tool of all is LOVE
"It's NEVER too late to recover from your eating disorder!"
This courageous statement comes from June Alexander, a grandmother who
emerged triumphantly from a 23-year battle with anorexia and bulimia at
age 55. Today, she is an author, speaker, mentor, and all-around
advocate for recovery at any age. June knows from first-hand experience
how important it is to have the support of family and friends during
the recovery journey.
In
this teleconference, June will share how she
separated herself from the voice of her disorder, what
specifically helped her to achieve lasting recovery, how to identify
others who are willing and able to support you, and why
recovery is always WORTH all the hard work it takes.
Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!
Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!)
Chapter Four: Getting Smart About ED
In chapter four, we begin to cultivate the "me vs. ED"
mindset that will likely characterize the rest of any successful
recovery journey. This process - of dissociation from our ED-identity -
awakens a new compassion for ourselves, because we can start to see ourselves as separate from the eating disorder for the first time. WOW.
In Chapter Four it lists the five attributes
of your personality profile. Can you relate to these attributes? Which
seem easier to take in? Which ones do you find yourself struggling
with, and why? And how do you feel about Peggy Claude-Pierre's
assertion that you are not a failure at life, merely a failure at
understanding your own value... and that yours is a life to be
cherished?
Post your insights and ideas HERE
Learn from the past, then get the hell out of there. Learn from failure and it becomes success.*
We
spend far too much time stuck in the past, reviewing over and over and
over and over again the mistakes and failures that we have no power to
change. As a friend of mine often reminds me: there is such a thing as
time travel, but it only moves in one direction --- forward. This
nutshell is really an application of the Serenity Prayer. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it.
Learning the lessons experience wants to teach us, and applying those
lessons to today - now that is an efficient use of our time and energy.
Thom Rutledge is a
noted speaker/trainer, workshop facilitator, author of "Simple Truth"
and "Embracing Fear", and co-author (with Jenni Schaefer) of "Life
Without Ed". Thom is also the co-coordinator of the monthly
MentorCONNECT Teleconference Series. For more information about Thom,
