MentorCONNECT's Weekly Mentoring Moment A Chance to Build New Skills for Mentoring Matchups
|
March 1, 2010
|
|
| Theme for the Week:
Paying It Forward - The Power of ONE |
|
|
| Welcome to this month's Good News!
 What
can we each do to give back to the community that gives so much to us?
Each month of 2010 starting in March, we will be celebrating MC's
second year by exploring many ways we can give back.
This month we will explore the power of a single voice. A single vote. And a single dollar bill. You will find more information about March's Paying It Forward "Power of One" Campaign within this ezine.
See you on tonight's and Thursday night's live chat.
If you are on Facebook, Twitter or MySpace, be sure to look MentorCONNECT up, and say "Hello!" -- we are looking forward to connecting with you online! :-)

What A Mentor Means To Me
Alone no more. Believing in me Caring heart that helps me as I heal. Daughter honored by helping others. Emails that give me hope. Friendship to replace Ed. Gift of love to honor the daughter lost and keeps her memory alive. Hugs at the end of the email, I love! Inspires me to keep fighting. Just an email means so much and makes a big difference in my life. Kindness warms my heart. Lets me be me. Mentor Connect gives me a precious gift of a friend. Never judges me and accepts me faults and all. Opens a new door to help me kick Ed out. Place to share my feelings. Quiets Ed's voice and is my airbag. Relieves my pain and loneliness. Soothing words to ease my stress. Together we can beat Ed, I can't do it alone! Understanding my needs. Very grateful I have her as my mentor and friend! Warmth and caring keeps me going! Xtra special person. You take the time for me and adds my great treatment team. Zest for a life without Ed is stronger now.

March's Paying It Forward
"Power of One" Campaign
What can we each do to give back to the community that gives so
much to us? Each month of 2010 starting in March, we will be
celebrating MC's second year by exploring many ways we can give back.
This month we will explore the power of a single voice. A single vote. And a single dollar bill.
As of March 1, 2010, MC has 750 registered members. What if EACH ONE OF US gave just $1 to our community this month?
MC's services are always free to members, but MC is not free to run and maintain.
Your single dollar can stretch a loooonnnnggg way to help keep MC healthy & growing!
YES! I am willing to donate one single dollar right now
to support MC in the month of March.

Join us on Wednesday, March 17: MC Teleconference Series
Love Your Body, Rock the World:
Why RECOVERY Was the Best Choice I Ever Made!
Kirsten Haglund, Miss America 2008,
didn't always have the confidence to step onstage and compete in the
nation's most prestigious pageant. Now 21, a crowned champion, talented
musician, tireless advocate, and founder of the Kirsten Haglund Foundation,
she still remembers all too well the difficult days before she chose
recovery. Kirsten began struggling with her eating disorder in her
teens. But then she had to make a choice. Kirsten chose life. She chose recovery. She chose her dreams. And look at her today!
In
this moving and powerful teleconference, Kirsten will share her story,
answer your questions, give insight into her work to raise treatment
scholarship money and lobby for healthcare reform, and most importantly
convey the message that it is what is on the inside that makes our beauty shine - and last!

Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!

Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!)

Beating ANA Study Group
Just Get Over It
Wow - chapter 27! We have made it through an entire book, studying each chapter and examining what it means to "Beat" our eating disorder
through information, knowledge, action, heart, mind, and spirit. Here,
in the final chapter, we activate and harness the "secret weapon" that
will leave Ed not just quaking in his ugly shoes, but decimated, never
to rise again.
LOVE. Relationships replace eating disorders. Period, the End.
So
who are your three people? If you already have three people who are
willing to fully support you, could you use a few more? If you do not
yet have three supportive people in your recovery support circle, who
would you like to ask? Why or why haven't you already invited these
people to partner with you in the give-and-take partnership that all
relationships are? What is holding you back? For those of you who have
already invited three people, what was it like? How did you ask? How
does it feel to have three people who know that you need support and
are willing and able to be there for you?
Remember, if you want your eating disorder out of your life once and for all, the surest way to accomplish this is to let love in. This week, how will you let love in?

You can do great things, and never come close to perfect. *
A perfectionist is not
someone who does things perfectly. A perfectionist is someone who
believes that she is supposed to do things perfectly. Not just perfect
once or twice or once in a while, but all the time. Since true
perfection is not humanly possible, if you are a perfectionist, you are
holding yourself to an impossible standard. Ultimately, expecting this
of yourself is not motivation; quite the contrary --- it is paralyzing.
If you are serious
about recovering from your eating disorder, there will be no escaping
the fact that you will also have to recover from your perfectionism.
You can't order recovery ala carte ---- it's a package deal.
