Donate $25 (or more) to MentorCONNECT and get a
free recovery book & CD as our THANK YOU!
As
a part of the MentorCONNECT family, you know that we are a group of
volunteer leaders, mentors and those in recovery who work together to
overcome the bane of an eating disorder... completely FREE to
anyone who needs help.
And
while our team of mentors and volunteers are dedicated to offering
our time for free, there are always costs involved in running such an
organization. That's why we need your help in the form of donations.
But we
also want to show appreciation for the faith you show in us with your
dollars, so for any $25 donation (or more) you make during the
month of December, we'll send you a copy of Andrea Roe's and Shannon
Cutts' book/CD, You Are Not Alone Volume 2. It's our way of saying THANK YOU for your support.
It's an inspiring collection of personal recovery stories,
poems, artwork and song lyrics by women who are either in recovery or
fully recovered from an eating disorder. Included in the book is also
the You Are Not Alone Companion CD filled with healing songs by women who are either fully recovered or in recovery from an eating disorder.
To make your donation, simply go to www.key-to-life.com/mc_give.
Once you have place your donation, someone from the MentorCONNECT team
will get in touch with you to confirm your mailing address for the book.
Thank you again for all your support and Merry Christmas!

Join us Wednesday, December 9: MC Teleconference Series
with Thom Rutledge, Shannon & Jeanette
"Perfection is not one of our choices"
In
this teleconference, Thom, Shannon and Jeanette will lead a discussion
about one of the most dangerous pitfalls of eating disorder recovery:
the unrelenting and destructive drive to measure ourselves against a
standard of perfection. The timing of this discussion is, of course,
"perfect," as we all prepare for a new year --- and a new decade.
Date: Wednesday, December 9th Time: 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central, 6pm Pacific.
You won't want to miss this powerful teleconference
For more information, view the event flyer here.

Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!

Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!)

It is so tempting to let our Ed convince us that we don't know what to do to get better.
It is so complicated - all the reasons, the motivations, the benefits,
the drawbacks, the relationships, the past pain, the future
fear......and all that complication often masks the simple fact that we
actually DO know what to do to recover. We know what we need to do. We
need to eat. We need to explore what makes us tick. We need to decide
if the ways we have decided to react, respond, and prepare for daily
life are still working for us. And if not, we need to do something new.
In the movie "Contact", Ellie (played by Jodie Foster) explains the simple scientific principle of Occam's Razor: "All things being equal, the simplest explanation tends to be the right one."
What
complicated explanations have you been allowing your Ed to feed you in
place of the simple truth? What lies have you been listening to and
acting on that are keeping you from the simple truth that FAILURE = not getting back up and SUCCESS = getting back up....period, the end?

Decision turns desperation into determination. *
Nothing short of determination will do.
There is no half-assed recovery. There is no "almost hit my food plan
today" for you, any more that there is "I almost stayed sober today"
for me. And there is no waiting for the fear to subside or to become
more comfortable with what recovery requires of you. The only way to
where you want to go, is straight through. This morning, and tomorrow morning, and every morning, say to Ed, "Tell
me whatever you are going to tell me, threaten me with becoming big as
a 2-story house, tell me I am going to lose all control if I follow
this path of recovery, tell me how sorry I will be if I don't do what
you tell me, tell me one more time that I don't deserve recovery. Say
what you will. Pull out all the stops. Give me your best stuff. I'm not
going to do what you tell me to do --- not today. No matter how
horrible you make me feel, I will not do what you say --- not going to
do it... Now, Eddie, let's get some breakfast." That is determination. That is the courage recovery requires.
