Theme for the Week:
We Wish You All the Best for 2010!

Welcome to this month's Good News!

Happy New Year!Time for New Beginnings

This is a time for reflection as well as celebration.
As you look back on the past year
and all that has taken place in your life,
Remember each experience for the good that has come of it
and for the knowledge you have gained.
Remember the efforts you have made
and the goals you have reached.
Remember the love you have shared
and the happiness you have brought.
Remember the laughter, the joy,
the hard work, and the tears.
And as you reflect on the past year,
also be thinking of the new one to come.
Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings
and the celebration of life.

Mentoring "Thought for the Week"

I somehow survived my past to get this far, which is how I know that I do have it in me to navigate the unknown path before me with great success.

Join us on Wednesday, January 13:  MC Teleconference Series

"Feel the Feelings & Do It Anyway:
Finding Your Voice for Change in the New Year"

DorisIn our first teleconference of 2010, Doris Smeltzer, MA, shares the powerful and poignant story of how she survived the most devastating blow imaginable - the loss of her nineteen year-old daughter, Andrea, to bulimia - by reaching out to help others who are struggling. Doris will introduce us to information from her new educational curriculum about how Health At Every Size (HAES) and Intuitive Eating can help us all learn to "Savor Ourselves". With Doris, we will experience the empowerment that comes from rejecting the media's messages about body shape and size and embracing our own unique beauty.

MentorCONNECT TeleconferenceTo RSVP, simply send us an email with "RSVP for Doris" in the subject line to mc@key-to-life.com

The best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be giving back to your community!

100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!)

28 Days
If we have been in recovery for more than about two and a half minutes, we have probably already heard the phrase "one day at a time".

The first time I heard that phrase, I felt relief. The second time I heard it, I felt a bit confused. The third (and pretty much every time thereafter) I just felt irritated. I remember thinking to myself, like Sandra Bullock's character Gwen in the movie "28 Days", "One day at a time - what is that? Like two or three days at a time is an option?"

One day at a time, like it or not, is all we get. It is all we can handle, if we are being honest. The relationship we've had with our eating disorder, while toxic and lethal, has been an important one. At one point in time, we may have even believed that "Ed" was our best friend.

And what we used to cherish we now must grieve before we can let it go. Where are you in allowing the five-stage grief process of letting go of Ed to unfold one day at a time - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, over and over and over again until you can fully honor your feelings, and then finally let them go?

Thom's Nutshell Wisdom

Learn from the past, then get the hell out of there.
Learn from failure and it becomes success.*

We spend far too much time stuck in the past, reviewing over and over and over and over again the mistakes and failures that we have no power to change. As a friend of mine often reminds me: there is such a thing as time travel, but it only moves in one direction --- forward. This nutshell is really an application of the Serenity Prayer. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it. Learning the lessons experience wants to teach us, and applying those lessons to today - now that is an efficient use of our time and energy.
