Welcome to this month's Good News!
We had a wonderful teleconference with dietitian and eating
disorder survivor Jessica Setnick last week on how to thrive
through the upcoming holiday season. In case you missed the call, or
would like to listen to it again, click here.
We are also excited to share information within this ezine about
the next teleconference in our series, occurring on December 9th, with
Shannon Cutts and Thom Rutledge about perfectionism.
If you are on Facebook, Twitter or MySpace, be sure to look
MentorCONNECT up, and say "Hello!" -- we are looking forward to
connecting with you online! :-)
See you on tonight's and Thursday night's live chat.
Warmly and with HOPE,
Shannon, Jeanette, Andrea, Lynn, Cheryl, & Thom (your MC Leadership & Advisory Team) |

Mentoring "Thought for the Week"
I
can take care of myself. I can. I was born with the ability to meet all
of my human needs in safe, healthy, and appropriate ways.

Join us Wednesday, December 9: MC Teleconference Series
with Shannon Cutts & Thom Rutledge
"Perfection is not one of our choices"
 In
this teleconference, Thom and Shannon will lead a discussion about one
of the most dangerous pitfalls of eating disorder recovery: the
unrelenting and destructive drive to measure ourselves against a
standard of perfection. The timing of this discussion is, of course,
"perfect," as we all prepare for a new year --- and a new decade.
Date: Wednesday, December 9th Time: 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central, 6pm Pacific.
For more information, view the event flyer here.

Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!

Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!) To order MC Ed Armor, just click HERE |

Something's Gotta Give
Sometimes what we are doing is working, and when it is working, we have to put our nose to the grindstone and keep on going. And sometimes what we are doing is not working, and that may mean it is time to find a new grindstone.
Only you and your support team can determine whether it is time to dig
in and work harder on what you are doing, or to change course and try
something new.
In the movie "Something's Gotta Give", Jack
Nicholson's character is a successful older gentleman who has convinced
himself that he prefers the 'simple life' of dating much younger women
he has absolutely nothing in common with...until he meets the vibrant,
attractive successful playwright mom (played by Diane Keaton) of one of
his sometime-dates, and she quite literally sweeps him off his feet.
The only trouble is, he is so stuck in his old thoughts and
his old ways that at first he has no idea why what he has always done
suddenly feels so wrong!
Is there something that's just gotta give in your life in order to give way for something better?
How are your old thoughts, habits, and ways holding you back from the
dreams, hopes, and desires you have of a life that doesn't include your
eating disorder?
Post your insights and ideas HERE
|
When you say that you don't want to hurt anyone,
do you include yourself?*
So
you wouldn't hurt a fly, eh? You go far out of your way to not hurt
someone else's feelings, right? You are committed to treating others
with respect and fairness, yes? Well, there is nothing wrong with any
of that. The only thing wrong is that you probably do not include
yourself in all of this concern and respect. Getting past the
codependency that comes (free, no extra charge) with your eating
disorder, does not require that you stop being kind, loving and
respectful to others. It does require, however, that you treat yourself
with the same positive regard. Think of it as living according to the
reverse golden rule: treat yourself as you would treat others.
