MentorCONNECT attends Renfrew 2009
Shannon had a GREAT time at the Renfrew Annual Conference for Professionals - and met some of you while she was there!
She presented a poster on The Efficacy of Adding a Mentor to an Integrated Treatment Team, made lots of new friends, met MentorCONNECT members, enjoyed great workshops, and just generally had a good time!

Mentoring "Thought for the Week"
I am here to learn, to grow, to love - not to die from an eating disorder!

Join us Wednesday, December 9: MC Teleconference Series
with Thom Rutledge & Jeanette
"Perfection is not one of our choices"
In
this teleconference, Thom, Shannon and Jeanette will lead a discussion
about one of the most dangerous pitfalls of eating disorder recovery:
the unrelenting and destructive drive to measure ourselves against a
standard of perfection. The timing of this discussion is, of course,
"perfect," as we all prepare for a new year --- and a new decade.
Date: Wednesday, December 9th Time: 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central, 6pm Pacific.
You won't want to miss this powerful teleconference
For more information, view the event flyer here.

Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!

Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!) To order MC Ed Armor, just click HERE |

Last Holiday
None
of us start out dreaming of living life with an eating disorder as our
closest companion. So when we wake up one day and realize that is
exactly what we've been doing, we often panic and consider going to the
most extreme lengths to escape. The simple fact is, contemplating our
own death is a very natural part of life. We all think about it. But at
some point along the way, most of us realize that we are much less
afraid of dying than we are of never really figuring out how to live.
In the movie Last Holiday, starring Queen Latifah, Georgia Byrd is struggling through the day-to-day drudgery of her real life by keeping a "Book of Possibilities"
- her someday dreams. One day, she gets an unexpected shock when a
doctor gives her just a few weeks to live. Suddenly, she doesn't have
time for possibilities anymore. She only has time for right now.
Recovering
from an eating disorder can be so difficult, so challenging, so painful
at times, that it feels impossible... not worth it even. But saving our own life is always worth it, and if we really stop and think about what our dreams are and what we are fighting for, we can realize this. What are you living for - recovering for?
What is in your "Book of Possibilities"? What else can you try to fight
for your own right to live and love and enjoy life? What do you dream
of doing, and what can you do about those dreams right now?
Post your insights and ideas HERE

Practice makes....practice. *
Recovery from an eating disorder, recovery from perfection, recovery from anything, is not something we find one day.
It's not even anything we accumulate with time. Recovery is a daily
practice of self-care, including self-compassion and the
inner-tough-love that it takes to keep us making good choices for
ourselves --- even on the days when we don't feel like taking care of
ourselves.
