Welcome to this month's Good News!
Another week, another great edition of MentorCONNECT's Weekly Mentoring Moment.
Shannon just came back home from an AWESOME Renfrew Center
Conference in Philadelphia. Look for the famous (ok not so much
but still fun! :) photo-journal in next the week's ezine edition.
See you on tonight's and Thursday night's live chat.
Warmly and with HOPE,

Mentoring "Thought for the Week"
Trust does not grow on trees - trust is grown on the tree of my life
as I take small, daily steps out of my comfort zone, holding my own hand for reassurance and support.

Join us Wednesday, December 9: MC Teleconference Series
with Thom Rutledge & Jeanette
"Perfection is not one of our choices"
In
this teleconference, Thom, Shannon and Jeanette will lead a discussion
about one of the most dangerous pitfalls of eating disorder recovery:
the unrelenting and destructive drive to measure ourselves against a
standard of perfection. The timing of this discussion is, of course,
"perfect," as we all prepare for a new year --- and a new decade.
Date: Wednesday, December 9th Time: 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central, 6pm Pacific.
For more information, view the event flyer here.

Hey Ed! You are not welcome inside the "Circle of Hope"!

Did you know that MentorCONNECT has its own "Ed Armor"? Designed by MentorCONNECT founder Shannon, the MC "Circle of Hope" Pendant (which appears alongside the M entorCONNECT logo) reminds ALL of us that the relationships we have here with each other really DO replace eating disorders! The
best news of all is that, whether you order MC Ed Armor for yourself or
to show your support for a friend who is struggling, you will also be
giving back to your community! 100% of sales proceeds go back to MentorCONNECT to help with overhead, expenses, and new programs (like our upcoming retreat!) To order MC Ed Armor, just click HERE |

28 Days
Grief sucks. Who amongst us wants to cry, to rage, to bargain, to accept the unacceptable...good lord, anything but that!
And
yet grieving is necessary or recovery is simply not going to happen.
Whatever happened in our past that made the eating disordered thoughts
and behaviors feel necessary for our survival hurt us very much. It
brought out our primal fear, and we learned to cling to the eating
disorder - instead of to ourselves and supportive others and life
itself - for our survival.
So we simply must grieve whatever it was before we will feel safe enough in our own company to let the eating disorder go.
In the movie 28 Days,
we meet Gwen (played by Sandra Bullock). Gwen is an alcoholic and drug
abuser. When we first meet Gwen, she is convinced she is fine. It is
only after she is sentenced to 28 days of rehab in lieu of jail that
she begins to meet others who want recovery, and she realizes that it
is possible to be proud of letting the feelings out, to be celebrated
for the courage of letting the behaviors go, and to be supported in
seeking a life free from behaviors that have become life-threatening.
Where are you feeling stuck in the five stage grief process (denial, anger, bargaining, sadness, acceptance)?
What kind of help do you still need that you have not yet found - or
have not yet been able to accept? Where have you tried to skip ahead or
sneak around the necessity to experience each stage in its
turn?
Post your insights and ideas HERE

Learn from the past, then get the hell out of there. Learn from failure and it becomes success.*
We
spend far too much time stuck in the past, reviewing over and over and
over and over again the mistakes and failures that we have no power to
change. As a friend of mine often reminds me: there is such a thing as
time travel, but it only moves in one direction --- forward. This
nutshell is really an application of the Serenity Prayer. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it.
Learning the lessons experience wants to teach us, and applying those
lessons to today - now that is an efficient use of our time and energy.
